Communications and Strategic Partnerships Director

Essential Responsibilities :

Communication component

  • Manage a team of communications professionals to improve Senegalese attitudes toward entrepreneurship with special focus on USAID Entrepreneurship & Investment’s target communities of intervention.

  • Drive engagement of women and youth through traditional media (e.g. television, radio, documentaries) and social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube), and other online platforms to inspire women and youth to pursue entrepreneurship. Build relationships with Senegalese “influencers” to leverage their audience networks among the project’s targeted demographic groups and support documentary, narrative and content creation.

  • Support regional business development initiatives with marketing and strategic messaging on skills development opportunities through live community- and school-based events, radio and podcast programming, and various digital planforms.

  • Tailor and customize narratives and strategic messaging to diverse populations ranging from rural, under-educated women and youth to established urban enterprises.

  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of large-scale events, conferences, and informational forums for stakeholders in the entrepreneurship and finance sectors.

  • Utilize market analysis and client demand research mapping to efficiently target communications campaign efforts at stated needs of USAID Entrepreneurship & Investment market segmentation groups.

Partnership component

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with a diverse range of Senegalese and international partners, including non-governmental organizations, private sector enterprises, and government agencies.

  • Define, under the authority of the Chief of Party, strategic guidelines in terms of partnership with the entrepreneurship ecosystem and elaborate the partnership strategy.

  • Develop close contacts, internally, with the other departments of the Program and, externally, with the main technical and financial partners involved into private sector development.

  • Prospection, negotiation and contracting of technical/financial (resource and affiliate) partnerships in accordance with the institution's intervention strategy and sectoral programs.

  • Conduct due diligence for the resource partners prior to collaborating.

  • Co-create annual workplan with the resource and affiliates partners.

  • Monitor and ensure partnerships’ workplans are implemented.

  • Co-organize events with strategic partners to support the entrepreneurial ecosystem and showcase the programs results both locally and internationally.

  • Ensure the dynamism of the program’s strategic partner’s network in order to be in a continuous improvement.

  • Monitor the national, regional and international public and private initiatives relevant to the USAID Entrepreneurship & Investment intervention strategy.

  • Represent institutionally the program (participation to panels, events, meetings and follow-up missions).

  • Support the organization of events related to partnerships and communication and the promotion of the institution's activities and results.

  • Ability to travel outside of Dakar to project sites, as needed.

Qualifications and Background: 
Education :      

  • Undergraduate degree in Communications, Business, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience :    

  • At least seven years professional experience managing communications and marketing campaigns organizing events, outreach efforts, and social media, especially activities targeting youth and women through different mass media platforms. Experience in the private sector is a plus.

  • Knowledge of the private sector, entrepreneurship/start-up space and effective marketing and communication strategies for achieving penetration into low-visibility market segments.

  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining relationships with high-profile organizations in the public and private sector.

Skills/Knowledge :     

  • Professional fluency in English and French; demonstrated proficiency with communication tools and software.

  • Great network skills with donors, private sectors, incubators and financial institutions.

  • Excellent active listening and interpersonal skills.

  • Extensive, accurate knowledge of the entrepreneurship ecosystem.

  • Adaptability and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to lead and direct others.

  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills and ability to distill complex issues into structured frameworks and concrete plans.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, public speaking/presentation skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills required.

  • Proven ability to work well across multiple disciplines within the organization and with external partners.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills with great attention to detail.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong excel skills and forecasting experience required.

  • Ability to manage and communicate in a large organization.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).
